What do air filters do for my air conditioning system?

Filters not only help filter particulates out of the air, they also help to protect a couple important components of your air conditioning system. A filter will stop particulates from gathering on your evaporator coil; if your evaporator coil gets too dirty, it will become inefficient and not allow enough air to pass across it. Restricting the air flow through a coil can cause it not to cool as well or freeze up. Filters also keep particulates from gathering on your evaporator blower wheel. If the evaporator blower wheel gets too much trash in its louvers, it will not be able to scoop as much air. This reduces the amount of air it blows. Air filters also help prevent particulate build up throughout your duct system and air handler itself.
